Assignments
-
You
will be given class time to complete much of your work.
You should not take certains assignments out of class. If you don’t complete an assignment in the time
given to you, you will be asked to come to class to complete it on your own
time (before school, at lunch, after school, etc.)
-
You may receive a grade of zero for cases of cheating
or plagiarism. Your parents may be
informed, the incident may be documented in your file, and you may be asked to
re-do the assignment.
-
Do
not count on “extra credit” work for points, as I rarely agree to this.
Respect
and Tolerance:
The most
important rule in this class is to create a safe environment through
respect. Everyone has an equal right to
learn in this class and should be treated as such. It is at my soul discretion to determine what
behaviour is considered disrespectful.
Listening to others, speaking only when it’s your turn and being positive are
especially encouraged. Please come see
me if you feel you are being disrespected in my class.
What you
should bring to class:
-
Reading materials (to read for pleasure and novel
being studied in class)
-
Binder with dividers (you are encouraged to keep your
binder organized by dividing your work between different sections. Usually, work is divided into the following
sections: Writing, Response, Grammar, Novel, Other)
-
Homework
-
Paper
-
Pen
-
Agenda
-
Any other material you’ve
been asked to bring.
You may
bring a bottle of water, but all other food and liquids are not allowed (unless
you’ve made other arrangements with me).
Devices:
You are
welcome to use your technological devices (cell phones, tablets, laptops, music
players, etc.) at appropriate times for research, taking notes, typing work,
keeping track of homework, etc. However,
if you use your device inappropriately during class time, you will lose this
privilege until further notice.
Tardiness and Absences:
If you miss
class or are late, (once the door is closed you are considered late), you must
make arrangements to get any missed notes, homework assignments, hand-outs,
etc. You are asked to see me for
this. Please note that although asking
in advance is appreciated, it will not always be possible to give you
everything you will be missing in advance.
If your missed assignments or texts are not completed by a pre-arranged
date, the test or assignment will be considered incomplete. Incomplete assignments may be given the grade
of zero.
Please note
that it’s important to attend class. If
you’ve missed several consecutive classes, I will speak to you about
it. If you miss 10 classes (whether your
absences are justified or not), your home will be notified. If you miss 15 classes, school administration
will be notified.
You are
always encouraged to see me if you have any questions or concerns. Please make arrangements in advance. It is possible to meet before school, during
lunch, after school and occasionally at other times. I am here to support your learning, so please
utilize all the resources possible to make the most of this course.
